Fancy a spot of cake? BBC Children In Need 2011

This Autumn I have been working with Independents United, The BBC and Paypal to create this great Facebook app for BBC Children in Need. The aim of the app is to create the worlds biggest digital cake! Facebook users can donate to Children In Need by purchasing a layer of cake, some icing, filling, pillars etc or buy creating their very own cake to add to the tower. It's a fun and easy way to donate to a worthy charity.

Below is just a small selection of the cakes, layers and other elements that I illustrated for this project...

Cakes that represent BBC shows will also be added to the cake as it grows.

Christmas is drawing nearer and nearer (82 days to be exact.. but who's counting?!) So why not check out this lovely Christmas pocket doodling and colouring book from Usborne that I had the pleasure of illustrating a few spreads for. The book is jam packed with lovely festive doodles and colouring spreads illustrated by Emily Beevers, Caroline Day, Antonia Miller and Myself.

This book is jam packed with stickers to place on the spreads within the book or wherever else the reader chooses to stick them! There are also some lovely label stickers to place on envelopes and presents! I illustrated this book along with the super Usborne illustrator Stella Baggott.

Finally! The time has come, the first books I have had the pleasure of creating some illustration and design for are now available to buy in shops and online as of Monday 1st August. The books I am referring to are The Usborne Girls' and Boys' Activity Books.

These books include games and puzzles, yummy recipes, doodle pages and 200 fun stickers illustrated by me!

With illustration and design by Erica Harrison, Katie Lovell, Caroline Day, Emily Beevers, Antonia Miller, Jan McCafferty and myself. Written by Lucy Bowman, Rebecca Gilpin, James Maclaine and Louie Stowell.

Pirate Pox

This piece is a birthday picture for my big sister Rhian (Or Yanna Spanna as she is otherwise known).

When we were in primary school we both caught chicken pox - Spanna was first to catch it. Whilst she was too contagious to go to school, but feeling perfectly fine (if a little spotty), she decided to turn the living room into a pirate themed play area in time for my arrival home from school! She baked pieces of eight and made us a pirate ship from various household items including most of the sheets from the airing cupboard. This new illustration depicts that day..

It's Princess Weekend on Nick Jr!

Today is the day of the Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William and to celebrate the Nick Jr channel are having a "Princess Weekend" showing lots of girly cartoons.

I created some concepts along with Blue-Zoo Productions for Nick Jr's advert for their Princess Weekend.

Here are some concepts I created..

Innocent Smoothies for Kids

I recently created some concept designs with Blue-Zoo Productions, for the new "Innocent Smoothies for Kids" TV advert.
Innocent asked for a fruit filled tropical island for their bouncy fruit characters to inhabit! The ad features a Banana plane, a magnet making machine and even a raspberry volcano! The designs where really fun to create and as always I love seeing the fantastic job Blue-Zoo do bringing them to life!

Getting in gear..

I have a saying when someone starts to become lazy or simply a little too comfortable and that saying is "Get your arse in gear!"

I've been looking through my portfolio recently and decided that it is definitely time to get my arse in gear, so I bought a little book which I am filling with lists and plans and a schedule all to make sure I stay on track with my new portfolio. It's working so far and hopefully soon my blog shall be filling up with lots of new portfolio work!

Good grief I've done it again and abandoned my blog for far too long during the winter months! I do have a good excuse though, I promise! I've been super busy with lots of exciting projects, namely working on books for Usborne publishing, Innocent Smoothies and Nick Jr ads for Blue-Zoo Productions and some branding for The National Trust.

Unfortunately for now I can only show you one of these projects - The National Trust's Food Glorious Food campaign. Last year The National Trust asked me to do some dooty little illustrations to promote their Food Glorious Food campaign. These illustrations decorated seed packets, their website and their branding/ advertising for the campaign. They very kindly requested that I create a few extra to promote the campaign for another year and here they are...

We are now in December and this means the count down to Christmas! Exciting!! This is my favourite time of year - I have already scoffed my fair share of mince pies, baked my Amaretto laced Christmas cake and its super snowy outside! I thought I may be able to do a sort of advent calendar of Christmas illustrations for my blog this year, but it seems I have already fallen behind! So I'll just settle for squeezing in lots of Christmassy pictures throughout December when I can, as I have a very busy month ahead!

I'm a little late posting this one.. October saw the 10th Anniversary of Blue-Zoo Productions and to celebrate they held a wonderful party for all who had worked with them in the past at the Paramount club high up in the Centre Point building in London. It really was a great party, I enjoyed meeting up with everyone and the drinks, food and sweeties were a bit good too ^_^ The highlight of the party for me however were the space hoppers, I got a little carried away challenging people to space hopper races!

There was also a gallery for the Birthday artwork produced for the special day.

It's Bonfire Night tonight and I'm off out to see lots of lovely fireworks! I just hope I can get my hands on some sparklers as shops always seem to run out if you leave it too late to buy them!

I've made a quick image to celebrate the night. My parents always used to wrap my big sister (Rhian) and I up warm, so that we had our pyjamas on under our clothes as an extra layer. We used to say that it meant we were secretly ready for bed as all we had to do was take the top layers off and we'd have our pyjamas on ready! This is us all wrapped up...

Last night saw the launch of the 'All I Want For Christmas' cards project. Organised by Illustrator Ben Steers for the Bristol based charity 'Young Bristol'.

The theme was 'All I want for Christmas is..' I would really love to have a Micro Piggy, so this was the theme of my design..

There are so many great Illustrators involved in the project. Here are just some of my favourite designs from this years collection..

All I want for Christmas is...

One of my designs was recently chosen to be included in the "All I want for Christmas cards" project. The AIWFC cards project is an annual project supporting Bristol based charity "Young Bristol" it features Christmas card designs by 20 UK artists and Illustrators. The cards are sold in packs of 20 and are limited edition (500 packs).

There will be a launch night for this years collection of cards on 4th November 6-10pm at the White Bear, St. Michael's Hill, Bristol. Featuring live drawing from Simon Spilsbury and other special guests and there will also be a charity auction with paintings, prints etc. donated by the artists involved.

Cineworld Idents

I designed some concepts with Blue-Zoo Productions and Got Got Need for a couple of idents for Cineworld Cinemas before Christmas. They are now in the cinema, so if you happen to pay a visit to a Cineworld Cinema you will be able to see them in motion just before the film! I saw them today when I went to see How to Train Your Dragon. It was exciting to see my designs on the big screen! The guys at Blue-Zoo and GotGotNeed did a great job modeling, animating and generally producing them ^_^

Hapus Belated Saint David's Day

March 1st is Saint David's Day, (Saint David is the patron Saint of Wales) and every year to mark its occasion I make a lovely batch of Welsh Cakes. Welsh Cakes are cooked on a "Bakestone" (a sort of flat griddle) I use a frying pan though, as I don't own a bakestone! Welsh cakes are similar to scones, but flatter and you don't put anything on them except for a sprinkling of sugar. I always like to add cinnamon to mine to make them extra special.

Since this years batch were so yummy I have created an image demonstrating how to make these super Cymraeg Cakes! Yumyum!!

Gosh I just noticed that this is my first blog entry this year. This is partly due to the fact that i've been busy working on commissions that I cannot post here yet and partly due to the fact I have moved half way across the country! (From London to the Midlands). I've moved as my boyfriend, Adam Baines, has a new job at Rare. He is a Concept Artist and you can see some of his work *here*. I'm happy with the move as it means I get a new studio room to work in ^_^ .. and a nice view of trees and fields!
